The Houser Project Pt. 4: #25-11

We're 3/4s of the way posted. If you missed any of it, here's part one, part two, and part three. 75 movie ratings! And here's 15 more...

I decided to post the top 10 as its own post. I think by now you understand the rating system if you've been following. If not, you'll probably catch on.

American Film Institute's 100 Greatest Films of All-Time (25-11):
(Titles linked to trailers)

25. To Kill a Mockingbird
(8, 17)
Atticus Finch is the best movie character, father, lawyer, southerner, human rights activist of ALL-TIME. Period.

24. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
(33, 59)
The alien movie is cute, funny, and classic.

23. The Grapes of Wrath
(63, 70)
Dust Bowl/Depression movie is waaaay better than the book! No every other chapter about a turtle.

22. Some Like It Hot
(41, 33)
Marilyn Monroe was a sex symbol in her day? Uhm, yes. Fact.

21. Chinatown
(40, 43)
Was loving this private detective uncovering a nasty scheme movie until the last 5 minutes. Worst. ending. ever.

20. It's a Wonderful Life
(9, 41)
Your life is never that bad. Message received.

19. On the Waterfront
(60, 40)
Brando battles corrupt union bosses. What a BA.

18. The General
(82, 73)
Silent comedy about a Southerner during the Civil War successfully deterring the North. Funny, but uhm.. the North won in real life.

17. The Graduate
(61, 47)
Nick liked it because he connected. It annoyed Katie a bit.

16. Sunset Boulevard
(65, 57)
We can see this as an accurate insight to Hollywood, crazy Hollywood.

15. 2001: A Space Odyssey
(78, 92)
It's eery how a film made pre-moon landing accurately portrays space travel and computer systems. We get the message, but the movie still annoyed us.

14. Psycho TWICE!
(11, 20)
Watch it once, it's kind of odd. Watch it twice and there's a whole new level of creepiness.

13. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
(14, 4)
If you haven't seen this by now you're being a rebel for no reason.

12. The Searchers
(81, 74)
Our first John Wayne movie: He was a jerk and the movie was harsh.

11. City Lights
(96, 94)
The final Charlie Chaplin movie... maybe for good reason...

Breakdown:
= 49
= 27
= 14

Biggest difference = It's a Wonderful Life (32)
Biggest Surprise Catch = Some Like it Hot
Best Performance - Anthony Perkins in Psycho
Best Character (not named Han Solo) = Atticus Finch

  1. I really like this idea, I might have to do some convincing to get my wife on board with doing this as well. My sister told me yesterday that she and her husband are doing the IMDB top 50. I might stick to just 50 too. My favorites from above are Star Wars and It's a Wonderful Life. great movies.
